Virginia - From Surgery to Weight Loss
Virginia is an active wife, mother and grandmother who loves bowling, going to her gym and traveling to find the best ingredients for her homemade salsa. But when back and leg pain threatened her weigh-loss goals and left her nearly disabled, Virginia went looking for options.
Virginia was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and started conservative treatment with epidural pain blocks and therapy. When those options failed to relieve her pain, Virginia was referred to Sutter Neuroscience Institute Spine Surgeon, Ardavan Aslie, M.D.
Dr. Aslie determined Virginia was a candidate for a new, less invasive surgery called the x-stop. The x-stop procedure helps relieve the pain caused by mild lumbar spinal stenosis by implanting a small titanium wedge between the vertebrae, to provide instant back and leg pain relief. The traditional surgery for stenosis, a laminectory, requires a hefty hospital stay and a few months of recovery. When Virginia when in for her x-stop procedure at Sutter Roseville Medicine Center, she was out of the hospital within hours, pain-free within a few days and back to the gym two weeks later.
"Dr. Aslie is truly amazing," says Virginia. "My whole experience, from surgery to Sutter Roseville, to recovery is better than I could have ever imagined."
Now Virginia is at the top of her game, exercising a few times each week at Curves, lacing up her bowling shoes and looking forward to traveling with her husband.
