Evaluation
At Sutter Neuroscience Institute, our specialists aid primary care providers with the diagnosis of movement disorders, provide second opinions, and act as a resource. We utilize a variety of techniques and technology to evaluate and correctly diagnose movement disorders.  This may include comprehensive consultations, neurodiagnostic imaging, laboratory analysis, genetic testing, and video tape analysis.

Treatment
Our specialists utilize a variety of tools to help manage and reduce the symptoms of movement disorders. Together, with the referring provider, members of our team identify the best techniques for each individual. Treatments may include botulinum toxin therapy, deep brain stimulation, gamma Knife radiosurgery, medications, pain management, and lifestyle modification.

Deep Brain Stimulation
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has been approved by the FDA to reduce some of the motor symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and idiopathic torsion dystonia. Sutter Neuroscience Institute has been performing DBS for more than seven years, and our clinicians have been specially trained in the surgical implantation and management of DBS therapy.

Our functional neurosurgeons implant the DBS device using stereotactic guidance, neurophysiological recordings, and neurostimulation. DBS is adjustable and patients receive long term care from our DBS Nurse Practitioner/Coordinator.

Candidates for DBS include those with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor or dystonia whom experience significant difficulty with daily activities and are unable to control all their symptoms with medications.

Sutter Neuroscience Institute treats a wide array of conditions.
